Haddock High Season Begins in September
North Atlantic Haddock is available year round, but the high season is in the fall.
Most fish in Iceland spawn in early Spring, when the larvae have access to rich plankton blooms that drift to nursery areas.
Fishing during the summer months can be unfavorable because the quality of fish can deteriorate faster than during other times of the year. Many fish processing workers take vacation during this time of year, adding to the challenge of fishing in the summer.
Unlike the traditional calendar, the official “fishing year” in Iceland is not from January to December but rather from September 1st to August 31st, making the advent of fall the new year.
